Beautiful & Functional Ceramics

Meet Rodolfo Pila

Rodolfo's passion for Mexican ceramics started at a young age, when his father introduced him to the traditional art form. Over time, he honed his skills in shaping, painting, glazing, and finishing, learning from his father and other mentors in the field. However, it wasn't until he enrolled at the cultural school at El Refugio in Tlaquepaque that he discovered the world of new techniques in ceramic art.

While he was well-versed in the traditional method of petatillo with points and lines, Rodolfo's professor pointed out that he lacked knowledge of new techniques with color and ombre. This feedback spurred Rodolfo to embark on a journey of exploration and experimentation, combining his traditional skills with new methods to create a unique style of his own.

Rodolfo's ceramics are not just beautiful works of art, but also functional pieces that add value to everyday life. At Verve Culture, we have had the pleasure of working with Rodolfo to create some of our signature products. One such product is the Hot Chocolate Jug, a stunning piece that showcases the age-old technique of polishing the clay with stones to achieve a rich hue after the second firing. This jug not only looks great but also keeps your hot chocolate warm and delicious.

Another product that Rodolfo makes for us is the traditional Cantaritos cups in our Cantaritos Cocktail Kit and you can buy them as a four pack. These cups are perfect for serving up a refreshing cocktail, and their authentic design adds a touch of Mexican culture to any gathering.

Rodolfo's ability to blend traditional techniques with modern ones is a testament to his talent and dedication to the art of Mexican ceramics. We can't wait to see what he creates next and look forward to working with him on more exciting projects in the future. At Verve Culture, we are proud to support artisans like Rodolfo who keep the traditions of their culture alive while also pushing the boundaries of what is possible in their art form.

I have the hot chocolate jug, cups and whisk. They are not made with lead. They are beautiful, functional pieces and absolutely worth the price!

Are they made with lead? Many clay products in Mexico contain lead
